One of Hollywood’s sexiest celebrities, Jessica Alba has proven she has the brains to match her beauty, with great success both on screen and in the business world.
Jessica was born in Pomona, California, to a diverse family. Her father is Mexican-American, and her mother has Danish and French roots. With her dad in the Air Force, Jessica moved around much in her early life, living in Mississippi and Texas before settling back in California.
She began studying acting as a young girl and landed an agent by age 12. She got her first role in 1994’s Camp Nowhere, and in 1995 she moved to Australia to star in the remake of the TV series Flipper. But it was being cast by James Cameron for FOX’s sci-fi series Dark Angel in 2000 that gave Jessica her big break. “I was a smart-ass,“ Jessica told Entertainment Weekly. The producers "liked that I had a smart mouth.”
Hot film roles followed, including as a hip-hop choreographer in Honey and a stripper in Sin City. Jessica also landed on the top of Maxim’s Hot 100 list in 2003. In 2004 Jessica was cast as Sue Storm (the invisible woman) in The Fantastic Four. On set she met her future husband, director’s assistant Cash Warren. (Before Warren, Jessica had been romantically liked to Dark Angel costar Michael Weatherly and Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia.) The couple married in 2007, and two daughters followed in 2008 and 2011.
Inspired by her daughters, Jessica launched The Honest Company in 2012 with the help of entrepreneur Brian Lee and environmental advocate Christopher Gavigan. The business, according to its website, offers “unquestionably safe, eco-friendly, beautiful, convenient, and affordable” products for babies and their families. The Honest Company has been wildly successful and has a valuation at nearly $1 billion, according to Dow Jones VentureWire.
“At first, people pretty much expected nothing from me,” Jessica told The Hollywood Reporter. “That ‘I have nothing to lose’ attitude I took from acting, I applied it to business and tried to trust my gut. Trusting my gut is something that I underestimated in business.”
Jessica followed up the company launch with her 2013 book, “The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You.” The New York Times bestseller offers a candid look inside her daily life and her journey in making healthy living easy, fun, and stylish.
